SHOCKING!!! This Man Burnt Down a Church, Then Returned To Ask For His Trousers

Officers caught up to a suspect who had forced his way into a church and burned things when the man returned to the scene and kicked at the front door, asking for the pants he had left in the bell tower back, Eugene Police said.

Jason Duque, 29, faces charges of arson in the first degree, burglary in the second degree, interfering with a peace officer, and resisting arrest, police said.

The investigation started just after 7 a.m. Tuesday with a report of a burglary at Bethesda Lutheran Church on Royal Avenue. The suspect had fled the scene on foot.

But while en route to the scene, officers learned that the suspect had returned — and was kicking the front door of the church, police said.

The man ran away as officers arrived on scene. Officers caught up to the man and took him into custody with the help of pepper spray, police said. Duque was treated at the hospital before he was booked into the Lane County Jail, police said.

According to police, Duque forced his way into the church through a lower-level window. While inside, he burned a door, light switch and poster, and damaged items in the pantry.

An employee of the church found the door to the bell tower propped open. Duque exited the door in a robe, swearing at the employee, police said.

The suspect walked away on Royal Avenue, but returned a short time later. He was kicking at the front door of the church and asking for his pants when police arrived.
